3.50 18 and 120-80/18 what is the difference

These are the two ways to read a tyre size, however here both the given tyre sizes are different. The 3.50 in 3.50-18 and the 120 in 120/80-18 is the tyre tread width given in inches and millimetres (mm) respectively. The next part 18, common in both the sizes, is the rim/tyre diameter. Moreover, the 80 seen in the 120/80-18 is the profile or aspect ratio given in percentage of the width i.e. in this case (120/80-18) it is 80% of the 120mm width, whereas in the 3.50-18 the profile or aspect ratio goes missing. If calculated, the 3.50 inch comes as 88.9mm, hence both the tyre sizes prove to be different.

I have swift vdi BS IV with 14 inch rim. I want to upsize from 14 to 15 inch in alloy. Is it safe ? And what would be the tyre size with that

Although upsizing is not appreciated by the car manufacturers as it disturbs the overall performance and mileage of the car. If you don’t mind the same you can switch to 185/70 R14 as upsize. The choices in the 185/70 R14 tyre size include CEAT FuelSmarrt, JK Vectra, MRF ZLO.
