About Michelin Car tyres

Origin and Expansion

Michelin is a French Multinational tyre manufacturer based in lermont-Ferrand region of France. The company was founded by Édouard Michelin and André Michelin. It started operating on 28th May, 1889 and two years later, it procured its first patent for the detachable pneumatic tyre. Michelin now owns the BFGoodrich, Kleber, Tigar, Riken, Kormoran and Uniroyal (in North America) tyre brands.

Michelin holds about 69 manufacturing units in 18 countries across the globe and has customer base in nearly 170+ countries. Michelin manufactures tyres for nearly every kind of automobile, however, in India, compared to other segments, the demand is more for passenger car and SUV tyres.

Michelin started its India operations a decade ago and is constantly expanding its distribution network. Michelin owns a 290 acre manufacturing unit in Chennai, which was established in the year 2009.

  • Michelin earned top customer satisfaction scores in three of four segments of the 2019 J.D. Power Original Equipment Tire Satisfaction Study. With these honors, Michelin has won 91 total J.D. Power awards since the study began in 1989, more than any other tire manufacturer.

Michelin India’s operation is assisted by Michelin India Technology Center(MITC), an integral part of the company’s global R&D network that has over 6,000 employees engaged in research, development and process engineering. Complemented by a Materials Test Laboratory at Manesar, Haryana, MITC is focused on radial truck and bus tyre R&D to support Michelin manufacturing facilities in Chennai, China and Thailand.
