Electric vehicles and Driver-less cars have already caught the attention of the world. What once existed as an ambitious concept is now being transformed into a reality. After the success of Formula -E, the holy grail of Electric vehicles' racing, way has been paved for a unique racing championship which will feature Self-Driven cars.
The championship, named Roborace, will debut in the year 2017. Playing an integral role in the realization of this championship is Michelin, the official tyre supplier. The prominent French Tyre maker is now the only brand to be named the official tyre supplier for Formula E as well as the Roborace.
The challenge facing Michelin here is not to create tyres exclusively for the racing specificity but something which could very well be used on the futuristic upcoming Autonomous passenger cars. This will render a fillip to the practical feasibility of the concept. Michelin has already commenced working on this project.
Commenting on the same, Denis Sverdlov, CEO, Roborace, said, “We are extremely proud to have Michelin as our partner. We expect our partners to be bold and to believe in a driverless future where our cities are greener, safer, quieter and smarter in ways that improve everyday lives,’’
“Michelin impressed us every time we met and they deeply understand the powerful opportunity of what road travel will become. They are pushing us, and themselves, to develop a world that moves from possibility to reality.“, he added.
Pascal Couasnon, Michelin Motorsport Director, said, “We are very excited to confirm our partnership with Roborace today. We have been following the championship’s progress very closely and have been testing privately with them for some time.
“We are very impressed by the speed at which Roborace has been developing driverless technology and hardware for its championship. Driverless technology is coming and we want to be at the forefront in terms of research and development.”
Roborace debuts the coming year and so far apart from Michelin, the other official partners for the championship are Drive PX2 as the Artificial Intelligence partner and Charge, the smart electric truck maker.
