Audi R8 gets optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres

After developing the Pilot Sport Cup 2 ultra-high performance tyres for the Porsche Cayman GT 4, Michelin will now provide tyres for the new Audi R8 too.

Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 ultra-high performance tyres will be offered as an option to the customers, which can be distinguished by the RO1 marking on the sidewall of the tyres.

These ultra-high performance tyres have been chosen for the sportscar to offer high levels of dry grip on the tracks without compromising on safety on wet roads along with better handling and balancing during cornering.

The Audi R8 will get 245/30ZR20 for the front and 305/30ZR20 for the rear tyres. The new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 ultra-high performance tyres have a combination of multiple rubber compounds (two different compounds for the front tyre and three compounds for the rear) developed in motorsport series such as the World Endurance Championship.

It took more than a year to finalize the tyre specifications and the production of the finished version. During 15 months time, the newly developed tyres went through four development cycles, including industrialization and endurance, wet grip and dry lap time tests were conducted on the Nurburgring and Jerez tracks , as well as Michelin’s Technology Center in France and Spain.
