Tyre manufacturer, Michelin announced that it will be the sole source tyre supplier for the main landing gear on the final assembly line for the Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range), 777-200LR (Long Range) and the 777 Cargo. The long-haul aircraft will be fitted with Michelin's new generation patented Near Zero Growth (NZG) technology radial tyres. This aircraft is capable of transporting 400 passengers covering a distance of upto 7370 nautical miles (13,650 km).
The sustainable partnership between two countries resulted in Michelin's certification on the Boeing 777-300ER. In April 2015, Boeing awarded the “Supplier of the Year” title to Michelin. The large part of Boeing line-up utilises Michelin tyres. This includes 737, 747, 787, 777 and several military aircraft also.
Michelin radial tyres incorportes NZG technology to help lower the total cost of ownership. Moreover it offers longer tread life and highest levels of safety.
“Michelin is proud to have been selected by Boeing as its official partner on the 777-300ER fleet” said Frank Moreau, Michelin Aircraft Tire Company’s President.
This latest Michelin Air X NZG tyre has three major advantages that led to its certification: Reduced weight that in turn reduces fuel consumption, Improvement in wear resistance translates to 15% extra number of landings compared to the standard nylon radial tyres, and improved reliability by being more resistant to damage due to foreign objects.
The tires will be manufactured at the Michelin plant in Bourges, France that is also a worldwide hub for radial technology aircraft tire production.
