Carbon Black Plant To Produce 130,000 Tons by 2021 - BKT

Off-highway tyre maker Balakrishna Industries Ltd. has announced that its new carbon black manufacturing facility in Bhuj, Gujarat will run at 100 percent of its capacity by 2021. The plant had a carbon black production of output of 60,000 metric tons in the first quarter of financial year of 2019 – increasing to 80,000 metric tons in the second quarter.
According to a statement released by BKT, it has raised its investment size in the plant to $75 million, up from $23 million announced in 2017, to increase production capacity to 130,000 metric tons per year by 2021. The additional 50,000 metric tons of carbon black produced will be soft grade.
BKT further added, that about 50 percent of the carbon black produced at the plant is being used by the company for tyre manufacturing process, while the remaining 50 per cent is sold in the market.
Rajiv Poddar, Joint Managing Director of BKT, said, “This plant makes the difference and is definitely going to reward us as the unit provides both manufacturing independence and good quality raw material.”
The $482.5 million Bhuj tyre plant was officially inaugurated by BKT in late 2016. The unit daily produces 300 metric tons. BKT has also announced plans to increase its global market share in the off-highway tire segment from 6 percent to 10 percent by 2025.
