Continental voluntarily initiates Truck Tyre Exchange program
Published On 25-Oct-2017
Continental AG has announced a voluntary tyre exchange program for approximately 12,000 Conti-Hybrid LS3 truck tyres of 205/75 R17.5 size produced from July 2014 to June 2015. Mainly the customers for this tyre were the Original Equipment Manufacturers in Europe but some tyres were also sold in replacement market. However, Continental told that there have been no reports of accident or injury caused due to this tyre model.
As per the tyre maker, this voluntary recall was initiated because in a few exceptional cases, the product showed sudden pressure loss before being put to use. The concerned tyre model is Conti-Hybrid steer tyre of 205/75 R17.5 size and has a DOT serial number HW96 F7T9 2714 to 2615. Customers can identify the tyre by looking for this serial number on the tyre sidewall.
Continental said that they have shared the details of this voluntary tyre exchange program with the related national authorities and is in 'close communication' with their Original Equipment customers, tyre distributors and dealers to get this information to the potentially affected tyre users. Replacement and installation of the tyres will be free of cost for the customers.
Earlier, Continetal also issued a recall in the US for passenger vehicle tyre ContiProContact P205/65 R15 95T XL (extra load) manufactured in February 2015. According to Continental, the faulty tyres were sold only in the replacement market. Continental has said the aforementioned tyres may experience tread separation. While Continental did not receive any reports of accident or injury resulting from this condition, it seems the tyre maker has observed discrepancies in the functioning of the tyre during internal quality tests/audits.
