Mercedes and Ferrari have opted for relatively few soft tyres for this weeks Mexican Grand Prix. Both the teams will have seven sets of red soft rubber at their disposal, while Valtteri Bottas has chosen four sets of the medium tyre, one less than his teammate and Scuderia rivals.
Last year’s winner Red Bull has stocked up on the red soft compound, a choice which is also shared by Renault, Haas and Williams’ drivers.
The white-striped hard tyres (C2), the yellow-striped medium tyres (C3) and the red-striped soft tyres (C4) nominated for this race are from the middle range of compounds of the Pirelli tyres.
In 2018, a wide range of strategies were implemented from a one-stop strategy to a three pit stop strategy. The winner Verstappen had a two-stop strategy.
The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit runs 4.304 km long with 17 corners and is 2250 meters above sea level which makes it the highest track on the Formula 1 calendar. Tyres experience a lot of graining at this high altitude.
