Before 2019, there were hardly a few electric cars in India, and those too were not up to the mark and attracted the masses. However, Hyundai took a different approach and launched the Kona electric SUV, its first in the Indian market. Though the pricing was steep, with the seal of a trustworthy brand, the range Kona offered, and price reduction after changes in the GST rates, it started to click.
And it can be seen in the fact that the company’s initial target of selling 500 units per annum has just started to be fulfilled. Hyundai has introduced an all-around package in the form of Kona, which is also an internationally established vehicle. On the outside, the car appears more or less like the traditional petrol/diesel-powered models, the only exceptions are the lack of a grille, unique 17-inch alloys and exhausts.
Apart from the exclusions, the Kona features LED headlamps on the front bumpers, and five-pod LED DRLs placed above. The side features plastic body cladding and flared wheel arches encompassing distinctive alloy wheels. The rear profile gets LED taillights, an electric badge on the right and a silver skid plate beneath.
The interiors are different and give us an upmarket feel. With impressive quality levels, the cabin gives a robust feel, and the front seats are extremely comfortable as they are adorned in leather, and are ventilated, while the driver’s seat is electrically adjustable in 10 different ways.
Then there are features, such as an 8-inch touchscreen, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, 8-speakers KRELL audio system, wireless charging, head-up display, auto climate control, heated ORVMs, powered sunroof, and rear ventilation duct under the seats, all that speaks quality that Hyundai is known for.
