Mahindra Scorpio has earned a reputation amongst Indians for the past many years. In the last two decades, it has enjoyed immense popularity, and the carmaker so far has been able to keep alive iconic status. However, as SUVs have become the flavour in the last decade, the Scorpio has been facing tough competition from Toyota Fortuner, Creta, Seltos, Safari and even its own sibling XUV700. Hence, the homegrown automaker has come up with a new premium and sporty iteration of Scorpio, to withstand the challenges hurled by the rivals. 

The new model called Scorpio N will be sold alongside the standard version. The SUV comes with a more rounded and mature look at the front. The car features a signature chrome-laden grille, LED projector headlights, LED foglamps enclosed by LED DRLs, and a muscular bonnet, making a bold statement straightaway.

Turn a bit to the sides, and the SUV character becomes evident with a robust shoulder line, and flared wheel arches, nicely covering the 17/18 inch alloy wheels. At the back, the Scorpio N takes cues from Volvo with tall LED tail lamps, a side-hinged tailgate and an overall gentle curvature.

Inside, the SUV has been bestowed with a futuristic design, featuring a modern-looking dashboard adorned in black and brown leather, and perfectly matching the faux leather and plastic trim. The Scorpio N is excellent, in terms of practicality, offering multiple cup holders, wide door pockets, shallow underarm storage, and a befitting cooled glove box unit. The single-lever 60:40 split functionality of the middle row takes the practicality a notch above.

In terms of features, the Scorpio N is a generation ahead of the standard Scorpio. The SUV boasts 8-inch touchscreen infotainment, powered by Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, AdrenoX Connect and Alexa Built-in, while the sound system is provided by Sony, with its 12-speakers 3D Immersive Audio.

The car further gets wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control, 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat, push engine start/stop button, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and a non-panoramic sunroof. The safety department has been enhanced with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, automatic headlamps, hill assist and descent control, tyre pressure monitoring system and front and rear camera.

The Scorpio N employs the same engines that debuted in sibling Thar. The 2.2L diesel powertrain comes in two states of tune; the one making 132PS/300Nm and the other producing 175PS and 370Nm (400Nm in automatic variant). There is also a 2.0L turbo-petrol unit generating 203PS and 370Nm torque (380Nm in the automatic version).

The power to the wheels is transferred via 6-speed MT, which comes as standard, while there is an optional 6-speed AT available with both the petrol and diesel engines. The diesel motor that produces 175PS is also available with shift-on-fly 4WD. 

The new Mahindra Scorpio N is available in seven colour options, including Everest White, Red Rage, Dazzling Silver, Deep Forest, Napoli Black, Grand Canyon and Royal Gold.
