The Royal Enfield Thunderbird has been a phenomenal success in the Indian market serving for almost two decades. However, with the growing competition, the company decided to update it with a new Meteor 350 cruiser, with revised engine and technology upgrades along with, several cosmetic enhancements.

Available in three variants and seven graceful colour options, the Meteor 350 gets a new instrument console with a combination of a digital display and analogue speedo. There is a separate pod with an integrated colour display which the company calls as ‘Tripper Navigation’ system.

The system works in conjunction with the Bluetooth and smartphone app that uses Google Maps data to show turn-by-turn navigation. However, it will not show any incoming calls or messages, instead display the current time if you are not using the navigation. The bike also features a USB charging port for added convenience.

Besides, the ergonomics have been revised for comfortable long journeys. As a result, the company has set the footpegs forward while the handlebar is slightly moved back for easy access. The seats have been split into two, are wider, and well-cushioned. With increased ground clearance at 170mm, the seat height is now welcoming at 765mm.

The most significant change in the Royal Enfield is the new engine, which now comes with fuel-injected and air-cooling technology, producing 20.4PS and 27Nm torque. The engine is aided by an oil circuit in the two-vale head to facilitate cooling.  The powertrain also features a balancer shaft to subdue vibrations. The Meteor 350 now sports a new twin-downtube cradle frame, which is claimed to be stiffer than that of Thunderbird. 

In terms of suspension, the bike gets a 41mm traditional telescopic fork at the front and a twin-tube emulsion shock absorber with a 6-step preload adjustment at the rear. The cruiser is also 6kg lighter than its predecessor. The braking mechanism includes a 300mm disc at the front and a 270mm disc at the rear.
