Michelin has launched a new range of heavy-duty mining tyres for the 250-tonne rigid mining haul trucks. The newly-introduced tyres will come branded as XDR250 and will be available in 50/80R57 size. The XDR250 is designed and engineered to fit Cat 793F and Komatsu 830E AC models.
According to Michelin, the new tyre will increase productivity by a quarter (approximately) as these will increase the amount of material carried per hour. The XDR250 has a nominal load-capacity of 60 tonnes and is claimed to have a longer life-cycle, stated Michelin North America’s Director for Earthmover Marketing Jamey Fish.
The new XDR250 series tyres feature technical upgrades like greater load capacity and lower operating temperatures while also allowing for faster driving speeds. The tyre incorporates new tread pattern with smaller rubber blocks crossed by grooves for optimised air flow and cooling. As per Michelin, the tyre runs 8 degrees Celsius cooler in the crown, allowing it to carry a heavier load at the same speed or to increase the average operating speed. The XDR250 is also said to contain an additional 9.2 per cent of air volume.
The tyre also comes fitted with MEMS (Michelin Earthmover Management System) that has an integrated sensor system to measure tyre pressure and tyre temperature. The system sends real-time alerts to the mine’s operator in the control room in case it detects tyre overheating or finds the tyre to be over or under-inflated.
