Indian tyre manufacturer MRF is planning to build a new greenfield tyre manufacturing plant in Bharuch, Gujarat. If everything goes as planned, MRF will be the third tyre manufacturer after CEAT and Apollo to setup its manufacturing plant in Gujarat. The company has initiated the talks with the state government.
An investment of Rs 4,000 crore to build the manufacturing facility is expected from MRF. The plant will be able to churn out around one million tyres per month. The company is seeking a 400 hectare land from the government and the company is likely to opt for Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) land rather than buying a private land.
MRFÂ is already investing Rs 4,500 crores for increasing the production capacity of its three plants in Tamil Nadu. The present cumulative production capacity of MRF is 1.2 lakh tyres per day from its 8 plants in Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
Another international tyre manufacturer Maxxis is also planning to setup a manufacturing plant in Gujarat with an investment of around Rs 2,500 crores. The initial production capacity of this plant is expected to be 10,000 two-wheeler tyres and 20,000 tubes per day.
