The Queensland Rally Championship is a rally racing event that takes place in Gympie region of Queensland, Australia. Indian tyre manufacturer MRF Tyres has been announced as the major naming rights sponsor for the 2016 & 2017 Queensland Rally Championship (QRC).
Championship spokesman Paul Woodward said, “The 2016 MRF Tyres Queensland Rally Championship will be an exciting competition. Every class and category is loaded with eager competitors ready to battle and wanting to take on the challenging five-round series. The sponsorship deal is a positive move to promote the sport of rallying in Queensland. MRF Tyres will obtain maximum exposure, the state championship will gain the stature it deserves and every competitor will compete in events with an ever-increasing level of safety, infrastructure and equipment.”
The deal with MRF Tyres is not a control-type arrangement that binds the competitors to a single-make tyre. The competitors are free to use any other brand they want. That said, MRF is running MRF Tyres Rally Challenge, where registered competitors using MRF Tyres can win significant rewards for their special stage performance within a rally.
The competitors are likely to choose MRF Tyres not only for the quality but also for the competitive price offered to the Queensland state competitors. The subsidised price for the MRF rally tyres is negotiated by Queensland Rally Advisory for the 2016 Rally season.
Round 1 of the ORC is scheduled for April 2 and will be organised by Brisbane Car Club.
