The exclusive F1 tyre supplier Pirelli has confirmed that it will be adding a fifth tyre in its Formula 1 range. The new ultra soft tyre will be having purple sidewall for easy identification. Two days after the final race of 2015 season, Pirelli will be conducting a 12-hour tyre test at Abu Dhabi on December 1.
The go-ahead for the tyre test was given after the voting done by World Motor Sport Council for a rule change. On the test day, Pirelli will run the new ultra-soft tyre and test the revised constructions. The FIA felt that the test should be authorised considering the safety aspect of it.
The 12-hour test will run from 9am to 9pm on December 1 and the teams participating in the test are expected to run their cars for 500km that day. The teams are also permitted to use more than one driver for this test.
Some teams were reluctant to participate in the test that was added to their schedule. Their reasoning was that their logistics and travel arrangements were already booked. However, some teams like Sauber and Force India are content with Pirelli allowing to run rookie drivers during the test. The rookie drivers will contribute the funds required for testing. On the other hand, Mano Marussia told Pirelli that they won't be taking part in the test.
"Teams have been asked to run preferably race or reserve drivers and they will not be allowed to try new parts nor alter the cars during the test," Pirelli said.
