About Pirelli Car Tyres
History:
Pirelli is the fifth largest tyre manufacturer in the world. This is a multinational corporation that has its headquarters in the Italian city of Milan. Pirelli tyres was founded in the year 1872 by Giovanni Battista Pirelli. In 1901, it launched the pneumatic tyre named ERCOLE and opened its first foreign plant in Spain the very next year. In 1922, it was listed on the Milan Stock Exchange and the Pirelli Tower was constructed during 1950s, which houses its first factory. Pirelli then made the ‘wide radial tyre’ in 1974, while the acquisition of Metzeler took place in 1980s, which is a German motorcycle company. During the early 2000s, its cable division was sold to Goldman Sachs and the Pirelli Foundation was also established. Since 2007, the tyre marque has been the only brand that is allowed in the FIM World Superbike Championship and has been the official tyre supplier of the World Rally Championship. By the end of 2010, Pirelli tyres became the only supplier in Formula One. In 2012, the company signed an agreement with PT Astra Autoparts for setting up a motorcycle tyre plant. The year 2013 marked the 50th anniversary of the Pirelli Calendar, which showcases the contribution of eminent photographers. In January 2014, it renewed the contract with FIA to supply tyres for Formula One World Championship. The firm carries out its operations in above 160 countries. It has a total of around 21 manufacturing sites in the world along with a large network of retailers and Pirelli tyre dealers.The Indian subsidiary of Pirelli is headquatered in New Delhi.Motorsport:
