Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport Recalled As Rear Tyre May Crack

If you are one of few fortunate people on the earth owning the $3.5 million priced Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport, then there is some bad news for you. It is hard to imagine that you are the owner of one of the fastest cars on the planet, and the rear tyre starts to show possible signs of cracks. Something like this is the apprehension of the carmaker as it has decided to recall several units of the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport.

As per National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the rear tyre of this supercar may begin to crack around 4000kms of use. This news is something you don’t want to hear about tyres that are competent enough to withstand the speed of up to 380kmph. Though only nine units have been recalled to figure out the possible fault in the US alone, others might follow the suit.

However, the carmaker recommends that if the vehicle has already been driven around 4000kms, the owners should stop driving this car until they get a new set of tyres. It is because, in a worst-case scenario, the cracks in the rear tyre can lead to loss of air pressure and the speed at which this car is driven, the consequences can be horrifying. However, no cases of accidents or crashes have been reported so far. The precautions are being taken after observing cracks on some of the units.

The French automaker is yet to formulate a plan for a proper tyre replacement. Owners for over 1.5 years or those who have already driven around 3000kms, the company says it will replace the rear tyres with a new pair, just to be on the safe side. Once the carmaker has finished developing the new set of tyres, they will be replaced again. And all this will be conducted at the Bugatti dealership free of charge.

Overwhelming performance

Chiron is no different when it comes to performing on the tarmac. With an 8L W16 turbocharged engine underneath, the car can accelerate from 0-100kmph in just 2.3 seconds and can clinch the top speed of 380kmph. The motor produces a mammoth 1500 PS and 1600 Nm of torque with the transmission duties handled by a 7-Speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The car comes with 285/30 R20 front and 355/25 R21 rear tyres jointly developed by Bugatti and Michelin. The unique rubber compound creates additional grip, increasing the lateral acceleration of the vehicle by 10 per cent, and enhancing the speed at corners.

The production of Bugatti Chiron started in 2020. Only 60 units will be assembled. And before it officially wraps up developing all units and starts the production of its successor, this rear tyre issue is yet to be resolved.
