Michelin, ARAI Join Hands for Upcoming Auto Tech Projects

Michelin India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) to share knowledge, increase awareness in the transportation industry and partner on forthcoming auto technology projects.

In a press release, the ace tyremaker informs the particular areas where both the partners will be assisting each other. It covers training on tyre technologies, vehicle dynamics and exploring the future prospects of regulation and standardisation. As per the alliance, Michelin India and ARAI would be jointly testing tyres for wet grip and rolling resistance.

Expressing his delight over the collaboration, Eric Philippe Vinesse, Executive Vice President, Research & Development, Member of the Michelin Group Executive Committee, said, “At Michelin, we continue to expand our external partnerships to tap into new perspectives on innovation. Our strategic partnership with ARAI will allow us to share our expertise and multi country know-how on tyre technology for the Indian market."

Vinesse also said that the tie-up between Michelin India and ARAI will assist in knowledge sharing between the two which would help in representation and reproducibility of tyre certification testing. This would help in gaining increased confidence in the industry and the end-consumers in India would be benefitted by this move, he added.

Commenting on the collaboration, Rashmi Urdhwareshe, Director, ARAI, said, “We are very happy to collaborate with Michelin on supporting the development of the auto and Michelin tyre industries in India. As an autonomous R&D organization, ARAI is at the cutting edge of assessing Auto industry technologies and Michelin is a global technology leader in the Tyre industry with a robust R&D and testing process. This partnership will help us strengthen learnings that drive innovation and standardization to harness mobility opportunities for India.”

The alliance of Michelin India and ARAI is certainly a good move for the Indian auto industry as its norms are now likely to be in line with the global standards.
