Italian tyre major Pirelli and Russia’s Rosneft oil company have signed an agreement of cooperation in marketing through the latter’s retail outlets. Extending their two-year-old contract, the partnership between the two firms will study the possibilities of opening mobile tyre-changing stations for seasonal use within Rosneft stations across Russia.
Pirelli and Roseneft signed the contract at Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 20. The first PZero Platinum store was inaugurated way back in December 2013 at a Rosneft filling station in Sochi, Russia. Going forward, the two industry giants plan to open as many as 200 tyre stores of similar kind by 2019.
According to Roseneft, the agreement will help boost the sales volume of the two companies through increased cross-selling. The project is also said to generate additional operational profit for Roseneft courtesy the advantageous financial scheme of cooperation.
A year ago, Roseneft and a number of allied companies had acquired a 13 per cent stake in Pirelli tyres. Concurrently, six executives from Roseneft were appointed to Pirelli's Board of Directors.
Apart from the newly-announced agreement between Pirelli and Rosneft, both the firms, in partnership with Synthos, are also involved in the production of eco-friendly synthetic rubber. The rubber produced will be used in the production of eco-friendly tyres to improve fuel efficiency and grip in both wet and dry conditions.
