The Yamaha FZ-S started the trend of premium 150cc motorcycles with world-class mechanicals and features, thus making it one of the most desirable motorcycles in its category. The motorcycle has entered into a third-generation version, but it continues to retain much of its mechanical components, with the tyres being one of them. When the Yamaha FZ-S debuted in India in 2009, it grabbed a lot of headlines for its ‘massive’ 140/60-R17 tyre – the widest tyre in the 150cc category. It continues to retain this rear tyre size, along with 100/80-17 tyre at the front.

The range of tubeless tyres for Yamaha FZ-S starts from Rs 1475 for the front tubeless tyre and goes up to Rs 5200 for the rear tubeless radial tyre. This range includes options from MRF, CEAT, Ralco, Birla tyres, Apollo, Pirelli, Metro tyres and Michelin.

The owner’s manual and tyre pressure chart of the Yamaha FZ-S suggests that the tyres of the motorcycle should be maintained with tyre pressure levels of 28 PSI at the front and 33 PSI at the rear.

The Yamaha FZ-S is currently in its third-generation version, and in all three generations of the motorcycle, it always had a single variant, which has come with 100/80-17 front and 140/60 R17 rear tyres as standard.

Yamaha FZ-S Specifications and Features

Launched in 2009, the Yamaha FZ-S was introduced as a slightly more premium iteration of the standard FZ, with added bits like a headlamp cowl and visor, engine sump guard and different paint schemes with graphics. The motorcycle was updated in 2014 with a new 149cc fuel-injected engine against the 153cc engine of its predecessor. The third-generation version retained the same engine and other mechanicals, but now produces lower power and torque outputs of 12.4 PS and 13.3 Nm respectively.

While the power and torque outputs have gone down, Yamaha retains the premium essence of the FZ-S with muscular styling and top-notch fit and finish levels. The motorcycle continues to come with 41mm telescopic hydraulic forks at the front and a five-step adjustable mono-shock at the rear. For brakes, it has a 282mm front disc and 220mm rear disc as standard, which comes with a single-channel ABS. The third-generation version also has a Deluxe version, which comes with contrast-coloured alloy wheels, either in blue or golden. The fully-digital instrument console of this current version features Bluetooth connectivity as well.
