About Apollo
Origin and Expansion
Headquartered at Gurugram, Haryana, the Indian multinational Apollo Tyres Limited was founded in 1972. The leading tyre manufacturer in the country serves more than 100 countries worldwide. A parent company to two world-class tyre brands Apollo and Vredestein, the homegrown tyre giant manufactures tyres for cars/SUVs, two-wheelers, trucks/buses, OTR, industrial and agricultural equipment.
Apollo Tyres has a wide network of exclusive, branded and multi-product stores across the globe. Not confined to India, the tyre maker has multiple manufacturing facilities in the Netherlands and Hungary as well. It has R&D centres in Tamil Nadu, Germany and The Netherlands. The total workforce employed worldwide by Apollo Tyres is nearly 17,200. The tyre manufacturer clocked a turnover of US$ 2.27 billion by the end of the fiscal year 2020.
While it was founded earlier, the production began in 1977 at Perambra, Kerala. In 1995, Apollo Tyres acquired Premier Tyres at Kalamassery, Kerala. Focusing on the future, the company entered into a joint venture with Michelin tyres in 2003 for making dual-branded bus & truck radial tyres in the country.
Apollo Tyres has the privilege of producing India’s first H speed rated tubeless passenger car radial tyres in 2004. It acquired the Dutch firm Vredestein in 2009. Moving ahead, it acquired a German tyre distribution company, Reifencom in 2015. In 2021, its testing facility got the coveted NABL accreditation making it the only tyre manufacturer in India to hold such a certificate.
Apollo Tyres has strategic tie-ups with numerous automobile manufacturers including Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Ford, Toyota, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), Ashok Leyland and MAN to name a few.
Recently, the Indian tyremaker had launched the Apollo Abhimanyu range of tyres for CVs. It’s a cross-ply rib tyre for steer axles. The optimised tread pattern ensures there is a uniform distribution of weight across the rubber along with enabling more miles per litre.
Besides, it also launched the Apollo Apterra Cross range of tyres for compact SUVs. The tyres come with a twin steel belt having JCP protection for high puncture resistance.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Since its inception, Apollo Tyres has been a forerunner in CSR initiatives. Its CSR functions are majorly divided into two areas: Environment and Social (Health and Community Development). Some of the famous initiatives taken by Apollo include Healthcare Program for Trucking Community, Solid Waste Management and Sanitation, Livelihood for Underprivileged Women and Bio-diversity Conservation.

Associations and Sponsorships
In the year 2013, Apollo Tyres Limited went on to become the second Indian firm to sponsor the prominent English football club, Manchester United. According to the deal Apollo was responsible for setting up football-based play zones, using recycled rubber, in the local populace in India and United Kingdom (UK). Started as a three-year deal, the association has only strengthened over the years and will complete a decade of togetherness in 2023. Apollo Tyres is currently the global sponsor for Manchester United.
