About Yokohama Car tyres
Origin and Expansion
Yokohama Rubber Company is a Japan based multinational tyre company that was started way back in 1917. Three years later, it established the Hiranuma Plant, which was successful in making the country's first corded tyres.
In the year 1929, the Yokohama plant was founded with a production capacity that was the largest than any other rubber factory in their country. In 1951, its Hiratsuka factory started operations and the next year, its headquarters moved to the capital city of Tokyo from Yokohama city.
Their first ADVAN series HPT radial tyre was launched between years 1960 and 1970. Yokohoma Tyre Corporation is the firm's manufacturing and marketing arm, which is based in the city of Salem, Virginia in the United States of America.
Yokohama in India
In 2014, its first Indian manufacturing unit was set up in the Bahadurgarh city of Haryana state. This was started with an investment of more than Rs. 300 crores and has the capacity of producing nearly 2000 tyres per day.
In August, 2020 the company announced that it has doubled manufacturing capacity at its Bahadurgarh plant to 1.6 million tyres per year with the completion of second phase of expansion.
