About MRF
Origin and Expansion
The largest manufacturer of tyres in India and the sixth-largest in the world, MRF was established in 1946 by K M Mammen Mappillai as a small toy ballon unit. It is headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The Madras Rubber Factory (MRF) produces tyres, tubes, conveyor belts, treads, toys and paints.
Starting as a toy balloon maker, the company soon forayed into the tread rubber domain in 1952. It first got into a tie-up with Ohio-based Mansfield Tire & Rubber Company in the USA. With its growing popularity and manifold expansion, MRF went public in 1961. In 1964, it opened a new office in Beirut Lebanon for export and the current logo of Muscleman was also etched.
Over the course of time, it entered into strategic partnerships with BF Goodrich and Marangoni TRS SPA, Italy to gain a technological edge in manufacturing tyres. In 1979, Mansfield Tire & Rubber Company was completely bought and renamed MRF Ltd. Among its moments of pride is supplying MRF tyres to India’s highly successful Maruti 800. It joined hands with Pirelli, the Italian tyre maker for manufacturing conveyor and elevator belts. In 2004, it forayed into manufacturing Go-kart and rally tyres along with two-wheeler and three-wheeler automobiles. It has been contributing to motorsports by MRF Racing and cricket by running MRF Pace Foundation.
The average net profit of MRF for the last three financial years stood at Rs 1,560.89 crore.

- Q.instead of uopsizing I am thinking of downsizing on my honda city 2007 model. I drive about 1500-2000 km a month , mostly on highways. Fuel efficiency, handling & braking are important. Tyre life does not matter as my car will hit end of life in 2.5 years. I am planning go go with 165/70/14R over OEM 175/65/14R. I know the only diff will be -6% tread width. The benefits i can see are increased fuel economy and cheaper upfront cost. If I buy something like a continental cc6 then its brakign is good, so it will offset the braking traction that I may lose due to -6% tread width change. What do you suggest ?A.Be it upsizing or downsizing, both carry risk, which is why car makers do not recommended such action. Remember, tyre size is finalised by keeping in mind car’s fuel economy, handling, performance and car’s kerb weight, which it has to carry successfully every time you drive. Hence, for safety and risk free performance always insist on the original tyre size as suggested by the auto manufacturers.Read More...Answered 26-Jul-2024 17:36:40

These are fitted with Pirelli 235/55 R19 tyres, but my local garage tells me that the back tyres are too small for this car, and instead should be 235/75. Are they right please?A.When comes to tyre sizes always insist upon tyre as recommended by the car maker for safe and risk-free performance. Here, the Mercedes Benz GLC 200 AMG is fitted with 235/55 R19 tyre size at the front and at the rear. Therefore, as it is the original tyre size there is no need to go for larger ones, and disturb the performance and handling of the car.Read More...Answered 26-Jul-2024 17:26:26
