Origin and Expansion
Metro Tyres is one of the leading tyre manufacturers in India known for providing high-quality tyres for various vehicle segments. The tyremaker mainly produces tyres for three-wheelers, bicycles, motorcycles and scooters. The company currently commands a 60 per cent share in the rickshaw tyre market and 24 per cent in the bicycle tyre market of India.
Headquartered in Noida city of Uttar Pradesh, the company, since its inception, has steadily progressed and turned into one of the leading makers of tyres and tubes in the global market. Metro Tyres provide world-class tyres in many categories. The company offer an amazing range of top quality, long-lasting tyres and tubes which are tailored to suit best a wide panorama of vehicles, road conditions and driving requirements.
Metro Tyres, at present, operates in nearly 53 countries and produces about 30 million tyres and tubes yearly. The company supplies its tyres to major OEMs, including Bajaj Auto, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India and Piaggio vehicles.
The firm has been trading in the overseas markets since its technical collaboration with the German automotive company ‘Çontinental AG’. The company supplies its products to the markets of the USA and European Union that bears the Continental brand name. Currently, Metro Tyres has a massive conglomerate worth US$140 million. It includes companies like Metro Tyre Limited, Metro International and Metro Ortem Limited.
Metro Continental also offers a wide range of products for motorcycles that are of the best quality. The company is also the exclusive supplier to its partner Continental AG for automobile tubes from India. Apart from this, Mexico-based the brand has also collaborated with Mercurio for outsourcing.
In 2016, the company announced to expand its business into the two-wheeler radial motorcycle tyre segment of the country with an investment of INR 300 crore. The brand presently has around a five per cent market share in the two-wheeler tyre segment and aims to double in the coming years.
In the same year, the brand announced to double the production and three-wheeler and motorcycle tyres to 6 lakh per month. The company has a strong workforce of over 4,000 people and regularly impart training to marketing and technical staff to update and improve their skills.
In terms of technology, the collaboration with the German tyre manufacturing giant Continent AG has greatly helped the company solidify its position in the Indian market. The tyremaker in 1977, introduced its chain plant with an annual capacity of 7.5 million bicycle chains, sold under different brands, namely Metro, VELO and ORTEM. The company has introduced anti-rust chains that can pass the salt spray test for more than 400 hours.
With continuous growth in the automobile industry, Metro Tyres aims to become one of the leading players in the huge tyre segment of the country with solid global footprints.
Facilities
The company is currently in the process of setting up a dedicated research and development unit at the production plant on the Jaipur-Delhi highway. The setup is being built at an investment of INR 10 crore. Besides carrying out innovations, the facility will address various requirements of the OEMs.

Manufacturing facilities in India and abroad
Metro Group has seven state-of-the-art manufacturing plants. Out of these, four are located in Ludhiana, Punjab, two in Noida, NCR and one in Gurgaon, Haryana. All the plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified, equipped with cutting edge production facilities, and fully geared for manufacturing large volumes of high-quality products.
The current combined installed capacity stands at 30 million tyres and 30 million tubes per annum. The company has an international presence in over 53 countries. It exports under the name of Metro International through 53 consignees.

The tyre size may not be available with MRF, however you can choose tyre from any other brand pattern like Metro Conti Rib, TVS Eurogrip Rib and Maruti Power Rib. Also would suggest not to opt for 2.75-18 front tyre as it may be unsafe and scrape the mud guard. Besides affecting the mileage it will also hamper handling of the bike.
