- Q.instead of uopsizing I am thinking of downsizing on my honda city 2007 model. I drive about 1500-2000 km a month , mostly on highways. Fuel efficiency, handling & braking are important. Tyre life does not matter as my car will hit end of life in 2.5 years. I am planning go go with 165/70/14R over OEM 175/65/14R. I know the only diff will be -6% tread width. The benefits i can see are increased fuel economy and cheaper upfront cost. If I buy something like a continental cc6 then its brakign is good, so it will offset the braking traction that I may lose due to -6% tread width change. What do you suggest ?A.Be it upsizing or downsizing, both carry risk, which is why car makers do not recommended such action. Remember, tyre size is finalised by keeping in mind car’s fuel economy, handling, performance and car’s kerb weight, which it has to carry successfully every time you drive.
