2023 BMW S 1000 RR Launched In India ; Tyres & Wheels Detail

BMW has introduced the 2023 version of the S 1000 RR for the Indian market. The price of the BMW S 1000 RR starts from Rs. 20.25 lakh, with the mid-spec Pro version and the top-spec M Sport variant priced at Rs. 22.15 lakh and goes up to Rs 24.45 lakh, respectively. With the launch, the new model has become Rs. 50,000 dearer than the outgoing model.

The BMW’s flagship supersport motorcycle now gets enhanced aerodynamics, additional power and new body paints. In recent years, the flagship superbikes have been gradually closing the gap up to the 220PS mark. The German auto giant has managed to extract 3PS more than the outgoing model.

The S 1000 R gets the 999cc 4-cylinder, water/oil-cooled, 4-stroke in-line motor, with BMW ShiftCam, that makes 210PS and 132Nm of max torque, paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The increased figures are the result of the alteration made to intake funnels and intake geometry. The bike can go up to the top speed of 303kmph.

Likewise, the chassis has also gone through significant changes, allowing more lateral flex. In simple terms, the frame of the new S 1000 RR is now less stiff, as against the outgoing model and should not get upset easily. Moreover, enhancing the stability is the extended wheelbase, which now stands at 1458mm, with a more relaxed rake angle of 23.6 degrees and a stretched-out trail standing at 99mm.

All these mechanical changes can hint towards improved stability, however, at a cost of slightly slow performance while changing direction. That said, the electronic package has also been updated, with more focus on riding aids on the tracks. These changes include a new feature Slide Control, that allows the rear wheel to step out of the line before cutting the power.

The anti-lock braking system has also been modified with the introduction of the new Slick mode and Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), which neglects accidental inputs coming from the electronic throttle after noticing a certain level of deceleration.

The most obvious change to the exterior profile of the new BMW S 1000 RR is the inclusion of winglets. It is the first time such a feature is added, and it looks visually identical to the sibling M 1000 RR but comes with 10kg of downforce, as against 16kg of the latter. The tail section has also been revamped to get a sleeker look with improvement in aerodynamics as well.

The bike is suspended on an upside-down telescopic fork with spring pre-load at the front and an aluminium swingarm with adjustable spring preload at the rear. The braking is provided by a twin disc at the front and a single disc at the rear with BMW Motorrad Race ABS, Brake Slide Assist, and ABS Pro, with diverse tuning for different driving conditions. The bike also comes with Dynamic Traction Control and Hill Start Control.

In the features department, the bike is loaded with a 6.5inch TFT display, M GPS Laptrigger, handbrake lever adjustable, Ready For Reverse Gear Shift Pattern and Cruise Control, among others. The new BMW S 1000 RR competes against the Kawasaki ZX-10R, Aprilia RSV4 and Ducati Panigale V4 in its class.

The M Package, or the top-end variant, comes with additional goodies, including Light white/Motorsport Colours, M Sport Seat, M Carbon Wheels, M Brake callipers blue, M Rider Footrest System left/right and a Fuel filler cap black.
