Michelin to officially supply tyres for BMW G310R

French tyre maker Michelin has confirmed that it will be the official tyre supplier for the much awaited motorcycle BMW G310R. Touted as BMW Motorrad's flagship vehicle under engine displacement of 500cc, G310R would come fitted with Michelin Pilot Street Radial tyres in India and internationally. The tyres have been chosen on the basis of superior wet and dry grip offered by them along with much needed durability for the Indian roads.
Gary Guthrie, president, Two-Wheel Tyre Division, Michelin, said, “Robustness is a really big issue. The roads here are either very dry or very wet. You need to have tyres that not only work well on a dry road, but one that is also able to evacuate a lot of water, which obviously has an influence on the tread design."
With this, the French tyre maker expects to increase its brand share in the competitive Indian market. In order to facilitate this the company has also ventured into the gear-less scooter segment with its range of Michelin City Pro tyres.
“We see an enormous growth potential within the two-wheeler segment in India. It’s a market which is not just growing but also evolving quickly”, added Gary.
G310R is BMW's first ever motorcycle with engine displacement of less than 500cc and would be manufactured at Tamil Nadu plant of TVS Motor Company. The vehicle is expected to be priced under Rs 2 lac and would compete against the popular KTM Duke 390.
Michelin is also the official tyre supplier for Harley Davidson's Street 750 and Street 500 cruiser motorcycles. The first vehicle to be produced under the BMW Motorrad- TVS alliance, G310R would sport a 313cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine delivering power of 33.5 BHP.
