Jeep lovers will soon be able to put their hands on another versatile SUV named Meridian. The car has already been unveiled, and the bookings for the same are underway, with the launch happening anytime in the coming weeks. The Jeep Meridian will be locally assembled at the company’s Ranjangaon plant and could be priced in the range of INR 35-38 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Talking about the vehicle, Jeep Meridian shares the platform with the sibling Compass and undergoes a refitment to accommodate an extra row of seats to make it a three-row 7-seater SUV.

The Meridian is quite a stunner, and unmistakably a Jeep with bold looks having slim headlamps and a seven-slat grille. The dynamic side profile is accentuated by a smart set of 18-inch alloy wheels, adding further to the road presence. The rear tail-light clusters neatly gel with the thick chrome strip.

Inside, the car is identical to the Compass with an elegant dashboard layout and the premium feeling it gives while touching the soft materials and all gears and switches. The dual-tone theme lifts the ambience inside the cabin while a large 10.1-inch touchscreen panel takes the centre stage on the dashboard and is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. 

Further, on the equipment front, the Meridian gets dual-zone climate control, powered front seats, powered tailgate, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and one-touch tumble for accessing the third row. In the safety department, it gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, traction control, hill-start and descent control and a 360-degree parking camera.  

The SUV will be available with the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder Multijet turbo-diesel engine, the same working in Compass. The engine produces 170PS and 350Nm of torque, with either a 6-speed manual or 9-speed automatic gearbox handling duties of transmitting power.

The manual variants of the Meridian will be offered in a four-wheel-drive set-up, while the automatics will additionally get an option of all-wheel drive. At a later stage, the SUV can also get a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine to further boost the line-up.

The Meridian is expected to be available in two trims, and the immediate rival in India would be the Skoda Kodiaq. However, given its price and AWD capabilities, can also challenge the likes of MG Gloster and Toyota Fortuner.
