Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. has opted for summer and winter version of the Pirelli P Zero and Scorpion lines as exclusive OE fitment on the 2020 Aston Martin DBX, first SUV from the luxury car maker.

Pirelli said it has worked nearly three years in close collaboration with Aston Martin’s engineers to determine the optimum OE fitment for the four-door, five-seat hatchback SUV. The result is three fitment - a P Zero for the DBX has been developed to offer the best possible performance and handling, the Scorpion Zero AS to go off-road, and the Scorpion Winter to deliver safety and performance even in winter conditions, with the same dynamic driving feel as experienced in summer.

The 2020 DBX comes equipped with a 550-horsepower, 4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine which is mated to nine-speed gearbox. The all-wheel-drive model goes from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 291 kmph, Aston Martin said.

Tyre fitment available for the SUV are 285/40&R22 front and 325/35YR22 rear, Aston Martin said, mounted on 22-inch alloy wheels (10J x 22 front/11.5J x 22 rear).

The joint development work on tyre fitment included laboratory testing before moving onto outdoor testing in different conditions. The wet weather capabilities of the Pirelli tyres for the new Aston Martin DBX were refined at Pirelli’s test track in Vizzola near Milan, while tyre performance on ice and snow was honed at Pirelli’s winter test facility at Fleurheden in Sweden, the tyre maker said.

According to Pirelli, the P Zero gets a new zero-degree belt in the structure marked as A8A on the sidewall that offers better steering feel to enhance pleasure behind the wheel. Engineers have also optimized the Scorpion Zero tread pattern to enhance the tire's off-road capabilities and designed the Scorpion Winter for winter traction in temperatures of -22 degrees F.
