    Q.
instead of uopsizing I am thinking of downsizing on my honda city 2007 model. I drive about 1500-2000 km a month , mostly on highways. Fuel efficiency, handling & braking are important. Tyre life does not matter as my car will hit end of life in 2.5 years. I am planning go go with 165/70/14R over OEM 175/65/14R. I know the only diff will be -6% tread width. The benefits i can see are increased fuel economy and cheaper upfront cost. If I buy something like a continental cc6 then its brakign is good, so it will offset the braking traction that I may lose due to -6% tread width change. What do you suggest ?
    A.
Be it upsizing or downsizing, both carry risk, which is why car makers do not recommended such action. Remember, tyre size is finalised by keeping in mind car’s fuel economy, handling, performance and car’s kerb weight, which it has to carry successfully every time you drive. Hence, for safety and risk free performance always insist on the original tyre size as suggested by the auto manufacturers.

    Q.
I have a Mercedes GLC 200 AMG-line 2022 with 18” wheels. These are fitted with Pirelli 235/55 R19 tyres, but my local garage tells me that the back tyres are too small for this car, and instead should be 235/75. Are they right please?
    A.
When comes to tyre sizes always insist upon tyre as recommended by the car maker for safe and risk-free performance. Here, the Mercedes Benz GLC 200 AMG is fitted with 235/55 R19 tyre size at the front and at the rear. Therefore, as it is the original tyre size there is no need to go for larger ones, and disturb the performance and handling of the car.

Planning to upsize 2017 bmw X3 20d expedition 225/60 R17 to 245/50 R17. Is it possible or there are other things to keep in mind before making the transition. How it may impact the drive?
    A.
Opting for larger tyre size affects handling and performance to some extent. However, if you are fine with the drawbacks, you can pick the 245/50 R17 tyre size in place of the 225/60 R17.
