EVs are currently one of the most trending things happening in the Indian automobile market. With more and more emphasis being put on green vehicles and Tata enjoying the majority of the share in this space, Mahindra did not want to miss this opportunity and hence, launched its first mass-market electric SUV, the XUV400.
Mahindra XUV400 is a proper contemporary electric car based on the same platform as XUV300. However, there are differences in many aspects, and the most evident is that XUV400 is not an under-4-meter SUV. The extension of the length was due to the integration of the large battery pack. But yet, the overall design feels more balanced and composed.
Other exterior differences are in the form of aesthetics, and one such is the choice of body paints, which adds some copper-coloured accents to the profile. The front fascia features a new bumper design and sealed-off grille with the new Mahindra badge in the middle and a faux skid plate at the bottom. The headlights have also been restyled with a halogen projector for the low beam.
The side profile sports fabulous 16-inch alloy wheels taken from sibling XUV300 and comes as standard, with attention to detail given to the hub caps. The roofs are copper coloured while the rails are finished in black across all the colours. The rear look well-proportioned, and extending the vehicle has resulted in a new tailgate while the spoiler is also bigger. The overall design and the LED taillamps are identical.
Coming to its interiors, Mahindra XUV400 EV gets the sporty all-black colour scheme but the overall design remains quite the same as XUV300. The SUV offers great cabin space, which is quite noticeable as soon as you get inside the car. The copper theme is carried to the cabin; you can see the bits like rotary knobs, air vents, gear lever and the ‘twin peaks’ badge on the steering wheel having the copper finish.

Safety has also been taken due care of, with six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, all-round disc brakes, IP67 protection for battery and rear parking sensors with camera.
Under the bonnet, Mahindra XUV400 comes powered with two battery packs. One is the 34.5kWh battery, and the other one is the bigger 39.4kWh.
