The Yamaha R3 has made a comeback to the Indian market with a revised front design, a new instrument cluster and a BS6 stage-II compliant engine. Here are all the changes, design highlights, mechanicals offered and tyre options of the Yamaha R3:
- Yamaha has launched the new R3 in two colour options in India at Rs 4.65 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

After much anticipation, Yamaha has launched the R3 in the Indian two-wheeler market. Launched beside the MT-03, the new Yamaha R3 has arrived with significant changes over the previous-generation model, which was erstwhile available in India. Launched at Rs 4.65 lakh (ex-showroom, India), the new Yamaha R3 is available in two colour options – Icon Blue and Yamaha Black.
Compared to the previous version latest avatar acquires significantly revised front fairing. Alongside, it accommodates dual LED headlamps and a centrally-placed air intake. However, the rest of the motorcycle, including the fuel tank, tail section, alloy wheels, clip-on handlebars and exhaust remain unchanged over the last model. Yamaha has also introduced a new full-LCD instrument console and LED turn indicators in the new R3.
The new Yamaha R3 retains the four-stroke, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin, 321cc engine from its previous version. However, this time, the engine has been tweaked to comply with BS6 stage-II emission norms and produces 42 PS of maximum power and 29.5 Nm of maximum torque.
The new R3 also receives upside-down telescopic forks at the front, while the rear continues to get a mono-shock. The brakes on duty in the Yamaha R3 are 298mm front and 220mm rear disc brakes, which are accompanied by a dual-channel ABS.
Yamaha MT-03 Tyres & Wheels
The previous-generation Yamaha R3 model was paired with 17-inch alloy wheels, wrapped with a 110/70 R17 tyre at the front and a 140/70 R17 tyre at the rear. The tyre sizes at front and rear complimented the bike's overall performance quite well. As a result, Yamaha has retained these tyre sizes for the new R3, which continues to flaunt a tubeless layout and radial construction tyres.
