When Royal Enfield launched the Himalayan in 2016, it had a different idea to bring a motorcycle that is powerful, robust, dependable and ruggedly handsome. Fast forward to the present day, and the touring motorcycle still stands tough and adaptable to different kinds of roads. The latest 2021 model lives up to the expectations as the company has addressed some of the core issues it has been getting from the customers since the last update.
A year ago, the Royal Enfield Himalayan was updated to keep it in line with the BS6 regulations. The new version gets a slew of design and feature enhancements to make it better or at least on par with its counterparts.
Talking about the changes, the new Himalayan now adds up an extra pod on the right side of the current digital-analogue instrument panel. The new equipment added is the same Tripper Navigation system that debuted in the sibling Meteor 350. The Tripper is a Google-powered turn-by-turn navigation system that works in conjunction, with the smartphone using the Royal Enfield app and via Bluetooth. The system not only allows navigation but also lets the rider add multiple stops as waypoints and provision of route & ride sharing. However, the screen does not show incoming calls or messages.
Apart from feature enhancements, the bike has also been updated with new colour options namely Granite Grey and Pine Green, apart from earlier body paints, including Gravel Grey, Mirage Silver, Rock Red and Lake Blue. Another notable change in the motorcycle comes in the form of a metal frame mounted towards the front portion of the tank, which was earlier a bigger one that created problems for the tall riders.
Moreover, the company has also revised the seats with new foam, while the seat height remains user-friendly at 800mm. Besides, the rear rack has been trimmed with the metal plate on the top, now allowing more secure cargo loading. The rest of the mechanics remains the same with the 400cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke, SOHC, Air-cooled engine making 24.8PS and 32Nm torque and mated to a 5-speed transmission for long highway cruising.
