Apollo Tyres Chairman honoured by Japanese Govt. with 'Order of the Rising Sun'

Mr. Onkar S Kanwar received this honour for his efforts towards strengthening economic ties between India and Japan while serving as the chairman of FICCI India-Japan Business Cooperation Committee.

Onkar S Kanwar, Chairman of Apollo Tyres, was presented by Japanese government with the honour of ‘Order of the Rising Sun’.  Mr. Kanwar received a Gold and Silver Star at the 2018 Autumn Imperial Decorations of the Government of Japan.

The honour was conferred upon Onkar S Kanwar by the Prime Minister of Japan- Shinzo Abe, in the presence of Emperor Akihito, for Kanwar’s efforts towards strengthening economic ties between India and Japan while serving as the chairman of FICCI India-Japan Business Cooperation Committee (IJBCC). His efforts in promoting entry of Japanese companies into the Indian market were also appreciated.

Speaking about the honour, Kanwar said, “I would like to thank the Government of Japan for decorating me with this Order. I am truly honoured to receive it. I would also like to thank the Indian Government, especially the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) for giving me this opportunity to work towards boosting trade ties between India and Japan.”

While serving as the chairman for IJBCC, Onkar S Kanwar actively participated in discussions and deliberations that led to the conclusion of the Japan-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). He has also facilitated Japanese investments in India through convening joint meetings with Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI).

Apollo Tyres, under his aegis, adopted  many Japanese work philosophies and models, including Total Quality Management (TQM). Kanwar is the current chairman of BRICS Business Council in India and is one of the members of Board of Governors, IIM Kozhikode.
