Hankook iON FlexClimate All-Season Tyre Introduced For Electric Vehicles

With the new-generation iON FlexClimate, Hankook has expanded its range for premium all-season tyres for range-topping premium electric vehicles.

Hankook has expanded its range of tyres for electric vehicles by launching the iON FlexClimate range of all-season tyres. With this new addition, Hankook Tire has completed its range of new-generation tyres for electric vehicles, the lineup of which includes iON summer and winter tread tyres and iON i*cept tyres.
The new Hankook iON FlexClimate all-season tyres have gone on sale in the European markets and will be available in eight different sizes for wheel sizes measuring between 17 to 21 inches. It indicates that this new range of all-season tyres will be available for premium, high-end electric vehicles like Audi e-Tron and Porsche Taycan.
Hankook has stated that this new range of all-season tyres is also recommended for vehicles with internal combustion engines and hybrid powertrains, claiming to offer enhanced durability and reduced noise levels.
What’s The New-generation iON technology All About?
For the iON FlexClimate range of all-season tyres, Hankook has relied on the new-generation iON technology, which it has been adapting for electric vehicle tyres in recent times. The Hankook iON FlexClimate all-season tyres feature four technologies – i Sound Absorber for reduced noise levels, i Super Mileage for reduced wear rate, i Perfect Grip for better adhesion on all surfaces and i Extreme Lightness for improved rolling resistance.
Based on 58 patented technologies, including ProDurable technology, this new iON technology by Hankook works in sync with the brand’s other technologies for improved handling and rolling resistance. They include ProGrip compound with high-density silica, interlocking 3D Grip Claw sipes and ProCoupling with finer silica distribution.
How Is Hankook iON FlexClimate All-Season Tyre Suitable For Electric Vehicles?
Given that electric vehicles are relatively higher than conventional vehicles due to the added weight of the battery, the Hankook iON FlexClimate has a reinforced belt made of extremely durable aramid fibres. Along with the claims of having an even load distribution over the entire tread width, this new reinforced belt allows a higher load index per tyre, thus ensuring good cornering stability by counteracting deformation forces at higher speeds.
Also, compared to conventional all-season tyres, the Hankook iON FlexClimate has a 20 per cent higher rigidity for the sidewall due to this reinforced belt.
How Is Hankook iON FlexClimate Effective In All Seasons?
The primary reason which makes the Hankook iON FlexClimate work equally well in all seasons is its special 3D sipes in its tread, which give a balanced grip on both dry and wet surfaces. For additional stability on wetter surfaces, the ProGrip tread mixture, with a combination of high-density silica and other sustainable raw materials, increases adhesion levels.
In addition, the “2-in1” sipes design, along with additional grooves in individual tread blocks, in the Hankook iON FlexClimate increase grip on even snow-covered surfaces, thus optimizing traction and braking performance on such surfaces. For a 365-day use in many European countries, where winter is more dominant in a year, the Hankook iON FlexClimate features the Three-Peak-Mountain-Snow-Flake (3PMSF) labels.
