Published On 06-Dec-2023
With lower pricing and minor updates, the new Bajaj Chetak Urbane intends to attract more electric scooter buyers towards the brand “Chetak”. Here are the details of the tyre options, along with other mechanical aspects and features, introduced in the new Chetak Urbane:
- The new Bajaj Chetak is also offered with a Tecpac, which adds a few more features and takes the price to Rs 1.21 lakh.
- The 12-inch alloy wheels of the Bajaj Chetak Urbane come wrapped with MRF Zapper-K tyres – 90/90-12 front and 90/100-12 rear.
- The new Chetak Urbane gets the same 2.9kWh battery pack but with a lower IDC-certified range of 113 km.
Bajaj has revised the Chetak electric scooter lineup by launching a more affordable Urbane variant. Based on the already-existing Premium variant, which is also due for an upgrade now, the new Bajaj Chetak Urbane debuts with a couple of new features but a lower range from the same battery pack, to keep costs in check.
We take a look at the new features and changes introduced in the new Chetak Urbane, including the front and rear tyres which have been shared with the Chetak Premium:
Bajaj Chetak Urbane: Tyres & Wheels
Bajaj Auto has partnered with MRF Tyres exclusively to make tyres for the Chetak Urbane electric scooters. The 90/90-12 front and 90/100-12 rear tubeless tyres wrapped over the 12-inch alloy wheels of the Bajaj Chetak Urbane are MRF Zapper-K, a tyre exclusively made for the electric scooter from Bajaj by MRF Tyres. These are the same tyres which were already offered in the Chetak Premium variant.
Sharing some of its attributes from other MRF Tyres for scooters sold in India, the MRF Zapper-K features a unique tread pattern, which not only gives it a stylish appearance but also helps it maximize grip and traction on the road. Adding more surefootedness to the MRF Zapper-K over corners and for low-speed rides is its extended shoulder design. The special compound used in making the MRF Zapper-K for the Bajaj Chetak Urbane scooter also helps in increasing the grip levels and tyre life.
Scooter | Tyre Size | Tyre Type | Wheel Type | Tyre Pattern |
Bajaj Chetak Urbane (Front) | 90/90-12 | Tubeless | Alloy | MRF Zapper-K |
Bajaj Chetak Urbane (Rear) | 90/100-12 | Tubeless | Alloy | MRF Zapper-K |
Bajaj Chetak Urbane: Looks & Design
Bajaj has made no changes to the design for the Chetak Urbane, which continues with the neo-retro design theme combined with modern elements like an all-LED headlamp, tail lamp and turn indicators. While it now comes with a revised full-coloured LCD instrument console, the Chetak Urbane misses out on sequential lighting for the turn indicators.
In its fully-loaded version with the “Tecpac” package opted, the Bajaj Chetak Urbane features two riding modes – Eco and Sports, hill hold assist, reverse mode and full smartphone app connectivity.
Bajaj Chetak Urbane: Engine & Specifications
The New Bajaj Chetak Urbane gets the same 2.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack as the Chetak Premium. However, compared to the IDC-certified range of 126 km claimed by Chetak Premium, the newly launched Chetak Urbane claims a lower IDC-certified range of 113 km from the same battery. The top speed claimed by the new Bajaj Chetak Urbane is 63 kmph, though with the Tecpac, the top speed goes up to 73 kmph.
The Bajaj Chetak Urbane retains the single-sided front and rear suspension from the Chetak Premium, but gets a more cost-effective drum brake setup for both wheels, unlike the discs offered in the Chetak Premium. The standard 650W charger provided with the scooter takes 4 hours and 50 minutes to fully charge the battery.
