Published On 26-Dec-2023
Situated in Pirelli’s facility in Breuberg, Hesse, the new Virtual Development Centre employs 2,500 people, including 250 development engineers.
- The new Virtual Development Centre is a major step by Pirelli to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
- The driving simulator in the new Virtual Development Centre from Pirelli allows more optimal tyre development, using virtual versions of vehicles from automakers.
- The new Virtual Development Centre is expected to drop the tyre development time by 30 per cent.
Pirelli expands its investment in Germany by opening up a new Virtual Development Centre (VDC). The new development centre, which has been inaugurated at Pirelli’s facility in Breuberg, Hesse, will help the brand to develop and test its future products virtually. The new development facility employs 2,500 people, comprising 250 development engineers.
With this new Virtual Development Centre, Pirelli Tyres intends to bring new revolutions in tyre development and optimize tyre development processes. The new facility is expected to reduce the tyre development time by 30 per cent while reducing the need to produce physical prototypes by up to 30 per cent. The new Virtual Development Centre is also considered one of the attempts towards sustainable production, given that Pirelli intends to achieve neutral production of CO2 by 2030.
Driving Simulator At Virtual Development Centre
One of the prime highlights of the new Virtual Development Centre from Pirelli is its driving simulator, using which Pirelli intends to increase precision in its results compared to the traditional methods. The new driving simulator will allow Pirelli engineers to sync with the requirements of car manufacturers more precisely, by entering virtual versions of vehicle models obtained from the carmakers into the simulator.
Depending on the feedback from the test drives with the virtual tyre models, tyre engineers at Pirelli can study the effects on vehicle behaviour with changes in steering, acceleration and braking inputs.
